Translated from the Scot's gaelic the term gralloch means "hunting." So a gralloch knife was a hunting knife. The earliest that a knife like this shows up in Scottish portraiture is in the early 1500's. It's a picture of a clan Chief looking on as his ghillie dresses out the stag that the chief has just killed. (Of course the chief wouldn't get his hands in it; that sort of thing is best left to those rustics that live so close to the land...) The ghillie has a couple of knives like this at hand to go about the job of butchery.
Blade: 4.5" of 1095 steel, hand rubbed to 320 grit finish.
